Volunteering : 3 days in a row

Wednesday, August 24, 2016

From making puzzles to serving food, this week i did volunteer work 3 days in a row. They were on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
My first volunteer in the U.S was with Be The Match, which i wrote the story here and then i found my self really enjoy doing volunteer work ever since.

It's good to know when i help people and they feel happy for what i've done. I love to see smiles on their faces and hearing them keep saying thankyou makes me think like "I'm doing a good job".

I learned a lot of valuable lesson from volunteering such as how to respect people, how to be sincere, how to be patient, etc. It also helps me feel more grateful for what i have. (no more complaining about life).

So this is what i did for those 3 days :

1. Saturday, August 20
Komal, Shobha, and I did volunteer work at Orlando Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. This place is like hospital, but most of the patients are elderly. So what we did there is entertained the residents. We sang for them, we painted their nails, we played games (puzzles, bowling), we also served tea & coffee.

Honestly i was emotional doing this volunteer work. They were sick yet no one stay by their side. No family or relatives. It must be really tough for them.

This event is oganized by Hands on Orlando.

2. Sunday, August 22
On Sunday i did volunteer work with Orlando Union Rescue Mission. I help them feed the homeless people. That day we served fried chicken, pizza, mashed potato, salad, and cake.

This event is oganized by Hands on Orlando.

3. Monday, August 22
On Monday i did 2 volunteer work. In the morning i was volunteering with Orlando Day Nursery in a project called "Puzzles with a Purpose". This project also organized by Hands on Orlando. So basically we draw a puzzle with simple math question to help the kids study math better (because it's a fun way to learn math). This puzzles will be distributed to poor kids.

p.s : i can't draw, so yeah this is what i made. Don't laugh, k?

In the evening, i did vounteer work with Street Straight Orlando. I also helped this organization served food for homeless people. There was a lot of food, because we served more than 100 people. However, i cant take the picture because i was really busy.

The homeless didn't take the food by themselves. They just need to sit on bench that we set, then we will deliver the food & drinks for them (one by one). Honestly i was exhausted & sweating a lot because i need to keep back and forth to served them (and the weather was hot!). But i really enjoyed doing thoose things. Some of them were smiled and said "God bless you, young lady", or "Thankyou for your time", etc. Those simple words were just made my day!

For me volunteering means i give something but then i get so much in return. :)
